SUMMARY:Night Ranger
DESCRIPTION:Heavy hitting rock legends\, Night Ranger recently released a live album titled\, 40 Years and a Night with Contemporary Youth Orchestra and it is available on CD/DVD\, Vinyl\, Blu-ray\, and digitally across all streaming platforms. Filmed live at the Key Bank State Theatre in Cleveland\, this special event finds band members Jack Blades\, Kelly Keagy\, Brad Gillis\, Eric Levy\, and Keri Kelli taking the stage for a one-of-a-kind set joined by Cleveland’s acclaimed Contemporary Youth Orchestra—an impressive outfit that boasts more than 80 talented student musicians between the ages of 12 and 18\, who represent more than 40 schools in Ohio and who have previously performed alongside fellow rock legends such as Jefferson Starship\, STYX\, Pat Benatar\, Kenny Loggins\, and more. \nThe historic collaboration with CYO marks the first time ever that Night Ranger has performed with a live symphonic orchestra\, providing a unique and soaring backdrop to signature classics such as “Sister Christian\,” “(You Can Still) Rock In America\,” and “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me” among many others. The live concert event was also turned into a two-part special for AXS TV in fall of 2023. In addition to all this\, Night Ranger is also on the road continuing the celebration of their landmark 40TH Anniversary\, and will continue to tour across the country throughout 2025. \nHaving sold over 17 Million albums worldwide\, performed across more than 4000 stages\, and captivated a radio audience that exceeds 1 Billion\, Night Ranger has both epitomized and transcended the arena rock sound and style well beyond that era. The band continue to grow their ever-evolving fan-base and they are proof that powerful songs alongside\, incredibly talented musicians is the perfect formula for continued success. \nNight Ranger have earned widespread recognition that includes both multi-platinum and gold album status all while leaving their indelible mark on the music industry with a long list of best-selling albums (Dawn Patrol\, Midnight Madness\, 7 Wishes\, Big Life and Man In Motion). Their popularity is fueled by an impressive number of instantly recognizable hit singles and signature album tracks. Over the years\, the band’s music has made notable contributions to and been featured in many different areas of global media and pop culture. Night Ranger was one of the first big “video” bands on MTV\, with over ten #1 hit videos. Their songs can be heard in TV Shows like\, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt\, American Dad\, Glee\, Grey’s Anatomy\, Parks & Recreation. The band have also had music featured in video games such as\, Rock Band\, Guitar Hero and Grand Theft Auto\, plus hit Broadway musical Rock of Ages\, the Oscar-Nominated film Boogie Nights\, and other feature films such as Friday the 13th\, Teachers\, Sixteen Candles\, and The Secret of My Success. Most recently the band’s classic hit “Sister Christian” can be heard in a Dr. Pepper commercial. They can also be heard throughout JBL’s “Hear The Truth” brand campaign. \nNight Ranger is Jack Blades (bass\, vocals)\, Kelly Keagy (drums\, vocals)\, Brad Gillis (lead & rhythm guitars)\, Eric Levy (keyboards) and Keri Kelli (lead & rhythm guitars).

SUMMARY:Dusty Slay: The Night Shift Tour
DESCRIPTION:Long hair\, tobacco\, over-sized glasses and a trucker hat\, Dusty Slay is the self-effacing bourbon-voiced Southern comedian next door with a knack for observational\, blue-collar humor and the nerve to say what everyone else is thinking. He grew up the son of a single mom in an Alabama trailer park and evokes laughs about everything from Cracker Barrel to his aversion to soap. The 40-year-old Nashville native is a mainstay on the country music scene\, making his Grand Ole Opry debut in 2019 – the youngest at the time\, and adding dozens of appearances in the historic Circle ever since. He has also appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel Live\, has a Comedy Central special to his credit and just released his first hour-long Netflix special “Workin’ Man” that he filmed about three hours from home\, at the Bijou theater in Knoxville\, Tennessee. With almost 20 years of eliciting guffaws through his laid back observations\, comedic cadence and conversational style\, Dusty is just getting started bringing his brand of relatable working-class comedy to audiences coast to coast. Slay recently announced his 35-show “The Night Shift Tour” in support of the new special. See below for tour routing and more details can be found at DustySlay.com.

SUMMARY:Wood Box Heroes
DESCRIPTION:Woodbox Heroes\, the American acoustic super-group\, is hardly anything like the bluegrass music you used to find in the cassette player of your grandad’s old chevy pickup truck. Deeply rooted in tradition while melding together an eclectic-array of sounds from the country\, bluegrass\, blues\, jazz\, rock\, and classical varieties\, paired with crafty and authentic songwriting\, the band delivers a piercing listening experience that plunges deep into the caverns of the soul. \nBringing together some of the world’s most highly lauded musicians in Matt Menefee (banjo-Mumford & Sons\, Cadillac Sky\, Warren Haynes)\, and Barry Bales (bass-Alison Krauss & Union Station) backing up the vocal magic of Jenee Fleenor (fiddle-Blake Shelton\, Larry Cordle) and Josh Martin (singer/songwriter/guitarist)\, this unit has over a century of musical seasoning between them. Yet\, it is quite astonishing that the years spent on separate roads\, accompanying a spectrum of incredible artists and receiving some of the most sought-after honors and awards in the business\, has led to this enigmatic musical intersection.

SUMMARY:Larry Sparks & The Lonesome Ramblers
DESCRIPTION:Larry Sparks has said that he’s the youngest old-timer around\, and the self-description is an apt one. Emerging from the Stanley Brothers‘ Clinch Mountain Boys band\, Sparks carried on with the sounds created by bluegrass music’s first generation. His style was no knockoff\, however; it had a distinctively bluesy tinge anchored by Sparks’ own guitar\, a comparatively unusual lead instrument in bluegrass where the triad of mandolin\, banjo\, and fiddle has defined the musical texture since the genre’s early days. Sparks also developed a reputation as one of the most soulful vocalists in the genre; Alison Krauss once said of him\, “Larry Sparks is bluegrass music’s Ray Charles\, no one can touch him.” \n\n\n\nSparks grew up in Lebanon\, Ohio\, in the southwestern part of the state that has produced several other top bluegrass artists. His parents came from Appalachian Kentucky\, and one of his grandfathers was a fiddle contest champion. Sparks heard Cincinnati country star Wayne Raney on the radio when he was young and learned to play the guitar. His skills put him in demand not only for bluegrass but also for country and rock bands while he was in high school\, but after sitting in as lead guitarist with the Stanley Brothers as they toured Ohio in 1964\, bluegrass took first place among his musical interests. Sparks played increasingly often with the Stanley Brothers and made his recording debut in 1965 on a small Dayton\, Ohio label. He spent three years as lead vocalist with Ralph Stanley & the Clinch Mountain Boys after Carter Stanley’s death at age 41 in December 1966. \nAround 1970\, Sparks formed his own band\, the Lonesome Ramblers\, and it’s a rare bluegrass festival or concert series that hasn’t played host to Sparks multiple times in the years since. Numerous younger bluegrass players have passed through the Lonesome Ramblers or appeared on Sparks’ many recordings\, Ricky Skaggs and fiddler Stuart Duncan being only two of the best-known examples. Sparks recorded for various labels in the ’70s and early ’80s\, moving to Rebel in 1982 for the Dark Hollow LP. It was the first in a long line of recordings for Rebel\, with the guitarist still recording for the label in the 2010s and most of his material for Rebel still in print. \nAlong the way\, Sparks made several songs into bluegrass standards. He unearthed an obscure folk-rock composition by Lawrence Hammond entitled “John Deere Tractor” and turned it into a perennial anthem of discontented rural folk adrift in the big city; the cover of the song by the Judds on their Love Can Build a Bridge album of 1990 was likely traceable to Sparks’ own numerous performances. The Stanley Brothers‘ “Goin’ Up Home (To Live in Green Pastures)” was one of several gospel pieces that Sparks helped transform into a bluegrass perennial\, and Sparks tended to focus on gospel in his own numerous compositions. \nSparks and the Lonesome Ramblers barely slowed down in the ’90s\, releasing several albums over the course of the decade\, and 2003’s The Coldest Part of Winter showed him in undiminished form. Sparks released Last Suit You Wear in 2007. Recorded primarily with his road band\, the Lonesome Ramblers\, Almost Home appeared in 2011. In 2014\, Sparks celebrated a half-century as a headliner in bluegrass with Lonesome and Then Some: A Classic 50th Celebration\, which brought together new and vintage recordings to chart the course of his career. Sparks was slowing down as a recording artist\, but he was still performing regularly\, and in 2019 he released New Moon Over My Shoulder\, a blend of new material\, re-recorded classics\, and vintage gospel tunes.

SUMMARY:Shenandoah
DESCRIPTION:Marty Raybon and Mike McGuire formed Shenandoah in 1984 in Muscle Shoals\, Alabama with bassist Ralph Ezell\, keyboardist Stan Thorn and guitarist Jim Seales. Shenandoah inked a deal with Columbia Records and began establishing a national fan base with their self-titled debut in 1987. However\, it was the band’s sophomore effort\, The Road Not Taken\, that spawned their first top ten hits\, “She Doesn’t Cry Anymore”and “Mama Knows.”The group followed with three consecutive No. 1 hits\, “Church on Cumberland Road\,””Sunday in the South”and “Two Dozen Roses.” “The Church on Cumberland Road”spent two weeks at the top of the chart and made country music history as it marked the first time that a country band’s first No. 1 single spent more than one week at the summit. Shenandoah became known for delivering songs that celebrated the importance of faith and family while reveling in the joys of small town life. “Next to You\, Next to Me” topped the charts for three weeks and “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart\,” a beautiful duet with Alison Krauss\, won a Country Music Association Award for Vocal Event of the year and a GRAMMY® for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. Shenandoah also won the Academy of Country Music’s Vocal Group of the Year in 1991.The group currently consists of original members Marty Raybon (lead)\, Mike McGuire (drums) along with Paul Sanders (bass)\, Donnie Allen (acoustic guitar/fiddle)\, Andrew Ishee (keys)\, Nicky V Hines (guitar). \nFor more information\, visit shenandoahband.com. \nPresented by the Mountain Arts Center & Hillbilly Christmas in July \nShow time: 7pm
