Billie Jean Osborne’s Kentucky Opry will keep your feet tapping and hands clapping on Saturday nights during the summer and the Christmas season at the Mountain Arts Center. For over 30 years, audiences have enjoyed a musical variety show featuring familiar bluegrass, country, and gospel songs, and homespun, mountain-style comedy from a rotating cast of rising stars, all of whom hail from the mountains of eastern Kentucky. A retired music teacher, Billie Jean Osborne was known as a champion of mountain music. When the Opry formed in 1990, she made good on a promise of support to her former students and up-and-coming musicians of the area.
