Moonshine, Music & Mountains Tour
Discover the secrets distilled from the hills of Kentucky. Learn about the history and culture of Appalachia through a fun interpretation involving music, storytelling, dinner and of course, a replica moonshine still. Your group of 25 or more will cross Dewey Lake on a pontoon, embarking on the hidden still site where our local storyteller will begin sharing the secrets of the mountains. Afterward, enjoy a cookout and entertainment from local musicians.
A Pig, a Feud & Moonshine Too Tour
The story of the Hatfields and McCoys is one for the ages, and you’ll live it on this tour. Your visit begins with a beautiful ride on Dewey Lake, a delicious meal and a tour of a moonshine still complete with tasting. On day two, you’ll be immersed in the historic feud between these families through reenactments and museum tours. Your visit will culminate with following the path of the elk through the mountain valleys, listening for their call and watching as these beautiful creatures roam our countryside.
Elk Tour
Who says you have to go out west to see these magnificent creatures? They’re here in our backyard! Jenny Wiley State Resort Park hosts guided elk tours in the spring and fall. These powerful herbivores make their home in the scenic mountains that surround Prestonsburg. In addition to viewing these beautiful creatures, your stay includes a road trip down the Country Music Highway, a tour of Loretta Lynn’s Home Place, some downtown shopping and an out-of-this-world planetarium experience.
The Heart of an Appalachian Artisan Tour
Perfect for the musician, artisan or craftsman at heart, this tour marries all three for an exploration of creativity in our region. Visits to the Appalachian Artisan Center, Loretta Lynn’s Homeplace and the Country Music Highway Museum are complimented with make-and-take art and craft classes, so you can bring a piece of the mountains home with you. Outstanding cuisine and a pontoon tour of our beautiful Dewey Lake make this four-day excursion one you won’t soon forget.
